Job Description

The Little Café, a growing and vibrant restaurant brand in Kampala, is seeking a highly experienced and disciplined Executive Chef to lead its kitchen operations. This role is designed for a senior professional with proven experience in busy restaurant environments who can run the kitchen with authority, creativity, and an uncompromising commitment to standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Menu Development & Quality

    • Design and execute innovative, customer-focused menus aligned to The Little Café’s brand.

    • Ensure consistent taste, portion control, and presentation across all dishes.

    • Regularly review menus to incorporate trends while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

  • Operations & Cost Control

    • Oversee food preparation, cooking, and timely service in a fast-paced restaurant setting.

    • Manage inventory, supplier relations, and stock rotation to minimize waste.

    • Control food and labor costs to meet profitability targets.

  • Leadership & Team Management

    • Lead, train, and mentor kitchen staff to maintain discipline, teamwork, and efficiency.

    • Develop work schedules and enforce punctuality and accountability.

    • Build a high-performance culture where excellence is the norm.

  • Compliance & Safety

    • Guarantee compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.

    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment at all times.

  • Brand Alignment

    • Work closely with management to ensure the kitchen reflects the restaurant’s identity and vision.

    • Support new product launches, promotions, and menu upgrades.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in professional kitchens, with at least 3 years as an Executive Chef/Head Chef in a restaurant.

  • Strong background in casual dining or chain restaurants (experience in brands like CJ’s, Java House, KFC, or similar is a strong advantage).

  • Proven ability to design menus, control costs, and manage high-volume service.

  • Firm, results-oriented leadership style with the ability to enforce discipline.

  • Excellent knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards.
