Job Description

Job Title: Agriculture/ Social Studies Teacher

Reporting to: School Principal
Job Purpose:

To facilitate effective teaching and learning of Agriculture and Social Studies using the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework, promoting practical skills in farming, environmental conservation, civic responsibility, cultural awareness, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among learners.

Key Responsibilities (CBC Aligned)

  • Plan and deliver learner-centered lessons in Agriculture and Social Studies in line with CBC curriculum designs.
  • Develop and implement schemes of work, lesson plans, and lesson notes aligned to CBC learning outcomes.
  • Supervise school farm projects, gardens, and practical demonstrations.
  • Facilitate map reading, environmental projects, and civic education activities.
  • Integrate agribusiness concepts, sustainability practices, and social responsibility into teaching.
  • Use interactive and participatory teaching strategies to connect agricultural practices with social and cultural contexts.
  • Mentor learners in agricultural clubs, environmental initiatives, and civic engagement programs.

Assessment & Evaluation (CBC Aligned)

  • Conduct continuous assessment (CA) as required under CBC.
  • Develop and use assessment tools for Agriculture and Social Studies.
  • Maintain accurate learner progress records.
  • Prepare and submit learner assessment reports.
  • Provide remedial support for learners with difficulties.

Curriculum Implementation

  • Implement KICD-approved Agriculture and Social Studies curriculum.
  • Integrate Pertinent and Contemporary Issues (PCIs) such as food security, climate change, governance, and cultural diversity.
  • Integrate Values Education into lessons.
  • Use ICT tools to enhance teaching and learning where available.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Agriculture and/or Social Studies specialization).
  • Registration with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • CBC training certification is an added advantage.
  • Experience teaching in CBC environment preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of crop and livestock production, and strong grounding in civic/social studies concepts.
  • ICT literacy skills desirable.
