Job Purpose

To facilitate effective teaching and learning of English Language and Literacy using the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) framework, promoting acquisition of literacy skills, communication skills, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among learners in the primary school.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning (CBC Aligned)

• Plan and deliver learner-centered English and Literacy lessons in line with the CBC curriculum designs.
• Develop and implement schemes of work, lesson plans, and lesson notes aligned to CBC learning outcomes.
• Facilitate development of the four key language skills:
• Use interactive and participatory teaching strategies.
• Integrate Competency Based learning approaches.
• Support learners in developing reading culture and comprehension skills.

Assessment and Evaluation (CBC Aligned)

• Conduct Continuous Assessment (CA) as required under CBC.
• Develop and use assessment tools.
• Maintain accurate learner progress records.
• Prepare and submit learner assessment reports as required.
• Identify learners with learning difficulties and provide remedial support.

Curriculum Implementation

• Implement Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) approved English and Literacy curriculum.
• Integrate Pertinent and Contemporary Issues (PCIs)
• Integrate Values Education
• Use ICT tools to enhance teaching and learning where available.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education with specialization in English/Literacy.
• Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
• CBC training certification is an added advantage.
• Experience teaching in CBC environment preferred.
• Strong command of spoken and written English.
• ICT literacy skills desirable.
